The scholars have reached a consensus (ijma) based on the hadiths regarding locusts, affirming that it is permissible to consume them. It does not matter who catches them, whether they die on their own or are killed; they are lawful to eat.

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: “We set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for Hajj or Umrah. On the way, we encountered a swarm of locusts. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Eat it, for it is considered from the sea game.'” (Abu Dawood, Rites 42; Tirmidhi, Hajj 27).
