Consuming alcohol is sinful at all times and has been counted among the major sins. Avoiding it is a duty incumbent upon every Muslim. Just as one strives to observe fasting, one must also strive to abstain from such prohibited acts.
Moreover, the month of Ramadan possesses a particular sanctity and inviolability. Accordingly, although consuming alcohol is always sinful, doing so during Ramadan is more reprehensible, as it constitutes a violation of the sanctity of the month. Drinking alcohol at a time when people are fasting represents both disobedience to Allah and a lack of respect toward those who are observing the fast.
