There is a difference of opinion among Islamic scholars regarding whether the People of the Book are also required to mention Allah’s name (tesmiyah) during animal slaughter. According to the Shafi’i and Maliki schools, the People of the Book are not obligated to say the tesmiyah, while the Hanbali and Hanafi schools hold that it is required for them, just as it is for Muslims. The latter groups refer to the Quranic verse that forbids eating animals not slaughtered in the name of Allah (Quran 6:121), arguing that its ruling is universal.
