Accepting a neighbor’s invitation is considered a Sunnah in Islam, and not attending could be seen as neglecting their rights. However, if the gathering involves sinful activities or if the host’s income predominantly comes from unlawful sources, it’s recommended to avoid such gatherings. Sitting at the table of someone who earns through means such as alcohol sales or interest income is discouraged, as these are not considered pure forms of livelihood. Yet, if the neighbor’s income is only suspected, not confirmed, to contain haram sources, attending is permissible, as the base assumption is lawful earnings. For neighbors who openly commit sinful acts without remorse, maintaining distance and expressing disapproval is advised.
